Neck Liposuction
Things to know about Neck Liposuction:
What can Neck Liposuction Achieve?
Having excess fat deposits in the neck, indelicately called a turkey gobbler neck, can significantly affect one’s perceived youthfulness and vigor. Many patient’s have persistent deposits that are quite resistant to diet and exercise. Liposuction can be performed via a small incision just under the chin to remove this excess tissue. Additionally, the contractile properties of the thin layer of scar that forms in the area of surgery acts to tighten the area further in the months after the procedure. Some patients further benefit from having the muscular sling of the neck (platysma) tightened to further enhance the results (neck lift). This can be done through the same incision as the liposuction, using a slightly longer incision.
Treatment plan based on neck anatomy
During your consultation with Dr. Thomas Lamperti, he will assess your anatomy and skin character and determine which technique(s) would be best for you. As we age, our skin becomes less able to contract sufficiently after the removal of the excess fat. If this is the case, the skin would actually droop more. If Dr. Lamperti finds that this is likely to occur, he may suggest a concurrent facelift to help in contouring the the skin further.
Dr. Lamperti will use computer imaging to simulate a realistic post-surgical result given your anatomy. Dr. Lamperti’s patients understand that the morphed images are not a guarantee of results but a simulation of a shared surgical goal. Both neck lifting and liposuction are often combined with a chin augmentation, facelift, brow lift or blepharoplasty.
After surgery patients wear an elastic bandage to provide gentle compression to the area and to aid in proper healing. The bandage is worn consistently for the first week and then only at night for several weeks thereafter.
