See how facial fat grafting (lipostructure) can be used to treat lower eyelid bags without needing a blepharoplasty (eyelid tuck).
In a previous post I talked about a patient who had both lower eyelid blepharoplasty and fat grafting to rejuvenate her facial appearance. Today we'll look at a different situation in which only volume enhancement is needed to improve the eyelid and cheek appearance.
Prominent lower eyelid bags and tear troughs
This patient was interested in treating her lower eyelid bagginess. Her exam was notable for significant loss of facial volume in the lower eyelid and cheek areas. This patient's problem wasn't that she had excess lower eyelid fat causing the appearance of bags. Rather the problem was that her normal lower eyelid fat pockets weren't hidden as well as they should be due to her loss of facial volume
How Fat Grafting Can Improve Lower Eyelid Bags
Using the patient's own fat which was then process a fat transfer procedure was used to replace lost facial volume in the lower eyelid and cheek areas. This oblique view further shows how the shadowing in the upper cheek area is now effaced thanks to the improved facial volume.
This profile view shows how the patient's initially flattened cheek appearance has been converted to a more youthful convex appearance since having fat grafting.
In my next post I'll talk about how we were also able to treat the patient's prominent nasolabial folds using radiesse filler injection.
