Wearing SPF-based sunblock provides a great way to protect your skin from damaging ultraviolet radiation and its resultant risk of skin cancer and premature skin aging and wrinkles. Today's blog discussion is the first in a series focusing on common misconceptions regarding sunscreen use.
Is Makeup with SPF Enough?
Contrary to popular belief, wearing makeup with SPF is not the same as wearing regular facial sunscreen. Although it's better than not using any sun block at all, makeup-based sun block tends to crack on the skin allowing UV rays to penetrate through to the skin. To prevent this cracking the makeup would have to be caked on in a very thick layer. Instead it is recommended that you first smooth on a layer of sunscreen lotion and then apply your regular makeup.
