How to prevent nasal valve collapse

Of course, the key to dealing with post-operative nasal valve collapse is to prevent its occurrence to begin with. This is one reason why I stress the importance of ensuring adequate nasal strength after I complete rhinoplasty surgery.

What can be done about valve collapse

If you've had nose job surgery elsewhere and find yourself with collapse of your nasal structure what can you do? I have had great success in correcting valve collapse problems using a structure-based approach. This involves the use of cartilage-based graft to add strength and support the nose where it is lacking.

The following patient is a great example of this problem. She had prior rhinoplasty surgery about 20 years ago and came to me experiencing significant chronic nasal obstruction due to the pinching and collapse of her nasal tip. I used advanced cartilage grafting techniques to reposition and re-support her nasal tip while also creating a more balanced and harmonious appearance to her nose. Importantly, the patient's breathing is improved.
