Giving Up On Having Another Rhinoplasty
Unfortunately, there are some people who've already had a rhinoplasty (or two or three) who are unhappy with their results. Is there a finite number of rhinoplasties that a person can have?
While there isn't a fixed number of surgeries that one is limited to, it can become more difficult to achieve a given result as the number of surgeries builds up. This is mainly due to the scarred tissue planes and potentially destabilized nasal framework.
I often hear patients say that they don't want their nose to look like Michael Jackson. His situation points to the problem of too many surgeries where the underlying structure of the nose was compromised leading to a pinched, unnatural nose.
My goal with rhinoplasty surgery is to make your next rhinoplasty your last. This involves an in-depth discussiom with you regarding your goals and what we can realistically achieve. I personally perform pre-operative computer imaging to simulate possible results to help with this dialogue. In some cases I dissuade patients from having any surgery if I don't feel that the risks outweight the benefits or if the desired goal isn't attainable.
